What is bitcoin?

This will be the most simple but efficient bitcoin explanation in a few bullet points that you can find out there.

  • It is a new form of money that is limited in supply, so it will appreciate in value over time.

  • It is digital and simple to use. Your smartphone is all you need.

  • It is decentralized. Meaning there is no central power such as a government, bank, or company in control.

  • It is portable and global. Take it anywhere in this world with you and spend it in any country. A world, A currency.

  • It is the first form of peer-to-peer money. Send it to whoever, whenever, whatever your heart desires. NO middleman NO permission.

  • It is very, very, VERY secure and no one can stop it. Did I mention it is very secure?

How Does it Work?

Bitcoin is digital, and for a digital coin of course you need a digital wallet. There are digital wallets for smartphones that you can install and hold your bitcoin in.

You may send bitcoin to anyone's wallet just by having their address or scanning their QR Code. The transaction will be peer-to-peer meaning there will be NO middleman.

So you can send bitcoin to the other side of the planet earth 24/7 (even on weekends 😉)

How to get my hands on some bitcoin? You may buy bitcoin with dollars or receive bitcoin for goods and services.

By the end of this article, you will learn how to buy, send, and receive bitcoin.

Why Should I Care?

There are 8 billion people on this planet and so far only 2% of this population has adopted bitcoin. This adoption rate is growing extremely fast as more and more people understand how bitcoin would free them from the old financial system.

Also, a new form of money that is limited in supply, and has an average annual return of +200%, is worth a bit extra attention.

Common Questions:

  • Is it a scam?

No. There is no central authority in control to scam you.

There are regulations on Bitcoin in the US and more are coming. Also, Bitcoin is already a legal tender in some countries and of course, more are coming.

  • Who controls it?

There is NO single entity in control.

People around the world are running it and keeping it secure. You can participate as well.

  • Who created it?

No one knows.

In 2008 an unknown person or group of people using the name Satoshi Nakamoto published an article (white paper) explaining how this new decentralized form of money works.

Even Satoshi can NOT control the bitcoin network and his absence actually helps decentralization of Bitcoin.

On the same note, Bitcoin code is run by people around the world and the source code is open to the public, so anyone can look at it.

  • Where is it?

It is dematerialized money. You can NOT see it or touch it.

Basically, it is computer software running on people's computers. It is everywhere and nowhere. Just like the internet.

  • What does it look like?

It does NOT have any form or shape. However, the following logo is being used to represent Bitcoin:

  • How is it real if you can't touch it?

There are many real and valuable things in our lives that we can't really touch. Like Electricity, the Internet, Social media, Radio/TV or cellphone signals, light, or even the oxygen from our beautiful plant babies 😊

Actually, we value untouchable things more than anything else in life. Like love, honesty, decency, kindness, faith, trust, ...

  • What are the advantages over Venmo?

Venmo or any other mobile payment service platform is operating on the base layer of paper money which is dollars.

These payment platforms are the same dollar in a different form. This means they only transfer digits and in the end, it gets converted to the same dollar and settles in your bank account.

Also, These platforms are not global. There are people around the world that are not allowed to use any of these apps simply because they were born in a certain country.

On the other hand, bitcoin is a digital global new form of money that does not put restrictions based on people's ethnicity, color, or country of origin. That is why it's freedom.

  • Why do I need it?

People used to say the same thing regarding the internet and emails in the late 90s. Bitcoin is the internet of money. You definitely don't want to fall behind in this fastest-growing network.

  • What's in it for you?

As a community, we have always strived to share knowledge and help others to grow. And now as a Bitcoiner, we strive to bring awareness and clarity on this new money/asset class to our community.

We believe this is the next internet of the world. Even bigger. The internet of money, and that is why we feel obligated to educate as many people as we can.

Where to Start?

We found Strike to be the most simple and easy way to buy and transact with bitcoin. Strike is a US-based mobile payment application like Venmo or PayPal but for bitcoin.

Step 2: Deposit some money.

Tap on the little person icon in the bottom right corner. Then tap on Deposit.

Note: Deposits and withdrawals are free of charge.

Note: Deposits are insured by the FDIC. This means your cash deposit is protected up to $250,000 from theft or the company’s bankruptcy.

Next it is going to ask you to add a payment method. You may add multiple bank accounts or debit cards for deposits and withdrawals.

It may take some time to verify your bank account or debit card.

When verification is completed try depositing and you shall see the following screen.

Simply enter the desired amount and tap on deposit then confirm.

How to Transact?

Tap on the little home icon in the bottom left corner. Your available balance should be visible on top.

Then tap on Pay.

Follow along and we show you how.

Simply tap on the little B icon in the bottom area. Then tap on Buy.
